Animal rescue centres are organisations (normally charitable) that take in animals that are lost, unwanted, abandoned, or simply where the current owner finds they can no longer able to provide the care that the animal needs. The centre will either seek out a new home for the animal or in some cases offer the animal a forever home themselves.
A good rescue service will take great care when rehoming an animal, to ensure that its new home will be a forever home. They will usually ask many questions of a potential new owner and often ask for references and / or a home check. They will also ensure the animal is in good health and that the animal is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated where appropriate.
This makes rescue centres an excellent choice should you find that your circumstances mean that you can no longer offer your pet the care that it needs. Using a reputable rescue centre means you can be confident that they will find your pet a loving new forever home.
In order to encourage our members to consider using such services we are asking all rescue centres advertising on Preloved to include the following information in their adverts:
If the animal is to be rehomed, the advert should also clearly state:
We believe that this information will help our members ensure that they are dealing with a well run organisation that has the animals' best interests at heart.
If you are looking for a pet, please consider visiting a local rescue to see if they have something suitable as you will be helping an animal find a new start in life.
A reputable centre will be able to advise you on the best breed of animal for your needs, your family and your lifestyle, and hopefully offer you a suitable animal that has been checked over by a vet and is in good health. Many rescue centres also provide excellent after care and support once you have taken your pet home.
