Summer is finally upon us. Well as good as we're going to get it seems! With that in mind here are my summer staples that every gal shouldn't be without this season. Grab your sunnies, your suntan lotions, a pina colada and one of the following and you are well and truly on your way to a super stylish summertime.
Summer is the height of special occasions. We're talking weddings, garden parties, birthday soirée’s and even Diamond Jubilees this year. Bearing that in mind every gal needs at least one frock (or four) in her wardrobe for such an event. The amount of second hand and vintage dresses on offer these days all means you can work the high street trends but avoid the dreaded feeling when you show up wearing the same dress as someone else at the same time!
Fifties shapes are always flattering for every shape and size and can easily be dressed up with heels and a clutch for a wedding or dressed down with pumps and a little cardi for garden parties. Floral prints are key. Pastel colours are on trend. But more importantly you just need to pick a dress that you love and feel comfortable yet stylish in. This little number is from Dorothy Perkins, but Preloved has plenty more on offer.
This summer's jacket of choice is the blazer. No more leather jackets or denim jackets. It's all about blazers. The great thing about them is that are so versatile and perfect for an AM to PM look. Wear with skinny jeans and plain top during the day and dress up with a party frock in the evening.
There are a huge choice of blazers on the high street at a range of different prices from cheap to expensive, Topshop have some amazing colours, including this pastel blue one. But be sure to check your local charity shop (and Preloved!) as you can easily snap one up for less.
Ok, so short shorts aren't for everyone but if you've got the pins then get them out I say. You can't go to a festival without your staple pair of shorts and luckily for us there are lots of styles to choose from. Go 'cut off' for a grunge look, go indigo denim for a smarter vibe or go high waisted for a kitsch 1950's look. This pair is from Topshop but you can find loads of similar styles right here on Preloved:
Tropical prints are not just embarrassing shirts worn by Dads on holiday. Tropical prints are hot right now. Pun intended. Tropical print trousers are really popular and what's more they are actually surprisingly flattering for all shapes. Best worn with a plain vest top and a pair or wedges.
Keep it simple and let the print do the talking. Go on, go bold and bright. It's summer after all! My chosen tropical piece is this blazer from Warehouse but check out Preloved totally tropical offerings right this way.
Cigarette pants can be super dressy or super casual. Either way they are perfect for summer time. They are generally worn loose so are also really comfy. Fashion win! High street shops are full of all different lengths, colours and prints so choose wisely. I opted for these swan print ones from Primark but why not save those pennies and bag a secondhand pair?
