It was 50 years ago today! In August 1962 a drummer took to the stage in a village hall near Liverpool to get people dancing to the beat at the local horticultural society's 17th annual dance. With his moptop shaking, Ringo Starr officially joined the ranks of the Fab Four, setting The Beatles on their way to global superstardom and their deserved place in musical history.
A half century later, The Beatles remain the unassailable boy band turned creative geniuses beloved the world over. From the bubblegum pop of their first album Please Please Me, to the musical experimentalism of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the White Album, the celebrated Scouse quartet embraced musical influences far and wide and made them their own.
It's no wonder, then, that the clamour for anything Beatles related remains undiminished. Everything from LPs, posters, signed memorabilia and photos are still much in demand in the secondhand and collectables arena.
So as huge fans of John, Paul, George and Ringo we wanted to join in the half-century celebrations by giving you the chance to experience the sound of The Beatles. We're giving away two tickets to LET IT BE – a spectacular theatrical concert jam-packed with over twenty of the band's greatest hits live in London's West End.
The show at the Prince of Wales Theatre follows the group's meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, through the heights of Beatlemania, to their later studio masterpieces with live performances of early tracks including Twist and Shout, She Loves You and All My Lovin’, as well as global mega-hits Yesterday, Hey Jude, Come Together and, of course, Let It Be.
It's a multimedia-rich, electrifying spectacle which takes you back to the magical sixties when all you needed was love, and a little help from your friends. Get ready to scream by entering here up until Sunday 2nd September!
